This is an opportunity for you to have an impact on student learning. Not only do electronic keyboards and headphones replace cardboard pictures, but LIVE interactive keyboard instruction can now develop a student's ear for music while young. This is providing access to quality instruction to all music students.

"The need for a piano for developing young musicians whose intention is to be audition-ready for the post-secondary in paramount. A piano lab provides the must-know critical study and analysis component to being a complete musician. The courses that would utilize the piano lab include Music Fundamental, Music Theory, Sight Reading and AP Music Theory. This sequential knowledge and understanding is critical the proper preparation for musicians. Having the tactical hands-on and practical application of playing and listening is what takes the developing musician from relative novice to learned, proficient and prepared for the post-secondary. The keyboard of the piano is the foundation for all theoretical learning, comprehension and understanding of music." - Richard Trujillo, SDSCPA Artistic Director
The Music Department would like to create a Yamaha LC4 Basic Music Lab for 32 students and 1 teacher with NP31 Digital Pianos. The piano lab comes with keyboards, headsets and a master station. This setup allows the teacher to quickly peer in and hear student progress on keyboard assignments as well as give one-on-one feedback via the microphone/headphone system. The teacher can do this from a central work station, allowing other students to continue working while the teacher gives simultaneous guidance. Cost of this lab is $20,000. Thank you to the Tippett Foundation and a private donation, half of this amount has already been raised. The Music department is hoping the balance can be raised through donations. Music as well as Musical Theatre students from all grade levels will benefit from this equipment.
"I truly believe it would change the dynamic in all music theory classes to teach from a piano lab versus a traditional classroom. Having hands on experience in real time with a quality instrument provides a unique learning perspective that cannot be gleaned any other way." -Dr. John Reynolds, SDSCPA Music Dept. Chair
Can you help the Music Department reach their goal? It is fast, easy and directly benefits SDSCPA. Every dollar, regardless of the amount, whether it be $5 or $50 matters.
Make a difference. Live your passion.
