The SDSCPA Theatre Department is comprised of an Acting Program, a Musical Theatre Program and a Technical Theatre and Design Program. The curriculum provides focused instruction in Acting, Musical Theatre, Production and Performance, Technical Theatre, Media Practice and Media Communication, Theatrical Design, and ROP Arts Management. One of the objectives for the upcoming year include helping send 4 students to the Open Jar Summer Institute in New York City.

New York City's most Broadway-integrated actor training program, The Open Jar Institute provides select students intensive one-on-one training with some of Broadway's biggest stars, performers, directors, choreographers, agents and casting directors.
Under the direction of Tony-winning Board of Directors including Joanna Gleason (Into The Woods), Susan Stroman (The Producers, Big Fish), Lynn Ahrens/Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Rocky the Musical, Anastasia), and Artistic Director, Jeff Whiting, the unique opportunity is a summer intensive-
One week in NYC - working with Broadway professionals! Five days of high intensity workshops in acting, singing, dance and audition technique designed for a select group of students - all taught by Broadway professionals.
Under the direction of Broadway Associate Director/Choreographer, Jeff Whiting, all students have the chance to work one-on-one with some of Broadway's best TEACHING ARTISTS. These include current Broadway actors, voice and performance coaches, acting teachers, choreographers, agents and casting directors.
Learn dance combinations from Broadway shows, take acting classes, work on your audition songs, meet with New York Casting Directors and Agents. Plus, enjoy seeing Broadway shows each night and meet some of the cast during backstage tours or talk back sessions.
Sixty students are selected to participate in each SUMMER INSTITUTE session. Students must audition and get selected for this opportunity.
